Universal Fan Engagement: Lessons from Fandom to Power Social Community Cultivation
Sports teams. Celebrities. Bands. Movies and TV shows. Find out what fan-fave brands can teach us about nurturing community, loyalty and a passionate fanbase and learn how to apply the fundamentals of fan engagement through your socials to create your own fandom.

Dr Georgie Carroll graduated with her PhD in Sociology from the University of Sydney in 2023.

Her research explored the intersection of fandom communities and consumption, and she used the fandoms of Taylor Swift and the television series Supernatural as case studies. Since completing her PhD, she has been widely featured as a media expert on fandom (and specifically Taylor Swift), and is carving a niche for herself in the fan engagement space.

Outside of her work on fandom, Georgie’s career has spanned publicity, marketing, and social media strategy and management, and she now works in strategic communications in the public service. In her downtime, she can usually be found yelling about her obsessions of the week, drinking excessive amounts of coffee, and binge-watching shows that were popular at least decade ago.
