Why does State of Social exist?

Because too many conferences sell inspiration and send people home with a notebook they never open.

State of Social grew out of #SMPerth, Western Australia’s first dedicated social media community, which Meg Coffey founded in 2013. In 2018 that community became a conference with one job: raise the standard of social and digital marketing in Australia.

It still runs on the belief Meg started it with. Strong marketing comes from informed decisions, tested ideas, and the willingness to sit in discomfort long enough to get it right.

Who is State of Social for?

State of Social is for marketers who feel the pressure and don’t shy away from it.

For people judged on outcomes, not output. For teams working through change, scrutiny and expectation. For anyone who’d rather hear what went wrong than another success story.

Looking for shortcuts? There aren’t any here. Ready to be challenged? Good.

“In digital marketing, we need to get away from our desks and spend time learning from experts. So we can go back to our desks and do better work.”

“That not every piece of advice is the same. I loved how they all had a different perspective. Best practice doesn’t mean that’s the way it should be done.”

“Actually used his examples on my boss the next day… I’m a whole lot less frustrated with my situation.”
