How we select speakers you’ll ❤️ with ideas that’ll 🤯.

Intelligence? Check. Charisma? Check. Industry-leading digital smarts? Check. But enough about us. How do we pick our speaking talent for Australia’s brainiest digital marketing event?

(Short answer: very carefully.)

So, what does it take to make the State of Social cut?

Like you, we’re digital marketers. And like you, we want to learn from the best. That’s why we pitch prospective speakers against each other in a Hunger Games-style battle.

OK, not really. It’s not a survival-of-the-fittest battle. But it is a selection-of-the-smartest-and-charismaticest competition. Here’s how we do it:

  1. Pick a theme. A theme that speaks to the challenges we’re all facing. This year, it’s all about finding that sweet spot where magic meets mastery.
  2. Choose our topics. We’re all digital marketing nuts in the State of Social community, so we put together a wish list of disciplines, topics, concepts and skills we want to get into.
  3. Put it out there. This is where our global network (and the global networks of the people in our network) enables us to headhunt digital marketing’s game-changers and thought leaders.
  4. Do our research. If we haven’t seen a candidate speak, we ask for footage. Not highlight reels. We review unedited footage where we can assess style, as well as substance.
  5. Get selective. We talk turkey with our shortlisted talent to ensure our line-up is as inspirational as it is educational. We discuss their ideas and insights, topicality and takeaways, presentation format and presenting chops, leaving no stone unturned.

And the winner is…you!

Our speaker-selection process takes months, but it’s worth it. It means we have a line-up packed with the best talent from around the world and across a host of creative, technical and strategic disciplines. No filler. No BS. No sales pitches. Just all-new killer keynotes, breakouts and workshops.
